First race of 2010

Our first race of 2010 was the final of the Million Dollar Race in Sun City held on 30th January 2010.
The final entry of 3155 birds were liberated from Hopetown a distance of 554 km into a stiff headwind with showers en-route.
The first of our two entries won 5th U.K. and 69th International after almost 12 hours on the wing and was one of only 142 birds to make it home on the day. She was bred from 'Golan' ( Son of YOUNG COUPLE) x 'Steffi' (Dtr Golden Gaby).

We have no doubt that 'GOLAN' will become one of our principle breeders in the near future.
Our second of two entries arrived the following morning at 08.15 to win 245th International. This young hen was another great performer bred from 'Outlaw' on this occasion paired with 'Sara' a sister of 'Syndicate Emerald' winner of 6th International in this race in 2006.
Two out of two in the prizes in this tough World famous race was very pleasing.

Further congratulation are offered to Mrs Smith and Daughter of Derbyshire who after a super season winning 6 on the trot won 5th prize RPRA One Loft final flying as the 'Wombles' Their prize winner was bred from a son of Outlaw(son of Figo, Reynaert) x Rowen ( Dtr. Young Couple) coupled to 'Magenta' their good breeding daughter of Blue Diamond (Wittenbuik x Sissi) x Marita
In the same race Fred Hall of Brighton informed me that they won 9th prize as the JFS Syndicate with one from their 'Hit Couple' a son of Hannibal x Marita coupled with a daughter of Figo (Verheyen Hofkens bloodline) x dtr. Ikon.
This couple also bred their previous winner of 4th prize RPRA One Loft race and their good Million Dollar race , South Africa prize winners. The 'S' part of the syndicate is Steve Radcliffe from Skelmersdale and he won 5th prize in the South West One Loft Race three weeks ago with one from a son of the 'Hit Pair'.

Saturday 12th September saw the last race of the season take place, the Natour event from Pommeroeul a distance of 169 km. The birds were liberated in a stiff headwind and a very tough race took place with the winners doing 1130 m/m.

Second bird was 09-688 a daughter of Golan (Son Young Couple) x Steffi (Dtr.Golden Gaby). This young hen is a sister to our 08-214 the super racing hen, and she is also previous good prize winner including 2nd prize St.Quentin 540 birds.
Third bird was 09-315 the grizzle winning his seventh prize in the last seven races. He is from a 'Bourgesman' line Dirk Van Dyke cock paired to 'Greta' a daughter of the 'Young Couple'. Greta is the dam of some good previous winners including 3rd prize in the Channel Challenge One Loft Race.
Fourth bird was 09-351 bred from a son of Jonge Merckx the Olympiade Sprint Champion of Belgium from the old Hofkens bloodlines raced by Verheyen of Merksplas x Daughter Hollywood (1st Dutch National All Round) x Daughter Aviator(1st Olypmiade Ace Long Distance)
Fifth bird was bred from a son of Golden Mattens x daughter of Creator of Wout Spierings.
This was a great end to a season that has seen some new potentially great young breeders emerge that will certainly improve the team and results in the next season.
I will up date this news section on a regular basis through the off season as we now have a number of one loft races starting in October. So please check back.
We will also have a few young birds for sale that are currently mid moult, and after another selection at the end of the month, they will be offered in our 'Birds for sale' section in October.
We are also ahead of schedule with our new publication 'The Duif Chronicles' volume 1, that will contain 516 pages of News, race reports, historical items, auction reports, new Ad Schaerlaeckens articles, that will provide fanciers with a good long read through the Autumn.
Jan and Rik Hermans have also re issued the English language version of the Continents best selling DVD of the last 2 years 'My Way' medical advice from the experts. This will also be offered as a special offer with the publication of 'The Duif Chronicles'. Check back in a week for more details.

NPO Orleans II 5th September 2009

Saturday the 5th of September saw the second Orleans NPO National race take place. The National result was dominated by the East sector 4 due to the strong west wind. Returns were very good and as this was the last major race of the season, plans can now be made for the 2010 team. Only one Natour race remains next week and a team of around 20 to 30 will be sent to this contest.
The young bird team has won the Sprint and Middle Distance Ace loft awards in the Federation Altenna & Raamsdonksveer against over 200 members, the long distance award has not been anounced yet but a high position is expected. The Combine Awards against 1000 members will also be known in a few weeks and again top positions are expected.

Third bird was 09-419 a son of Othello ( Bred from Pentium of Cor Leijtens) x Syndicate Flamingo winner of 9th place in the Flamingo One Loft Race in Florida winning $9000.
Forth bird was 09-422 a previous prize winner bred from Hurricane Run (Young Couple) x Black Betty( Daughter of Texas Girl of Roziers)
Returns were very good from this race so it is a full team for the last race of the season next week from National Orleans II.

Saturday the 15th August 2009 saw two races taking place. Both races were once again influenced by the wind as the winning velocities for the natour race was over 2000 m/m and the youngster race was over 1700 m/m.
The morning Natour race (Any Age) was from Pommeroeul a distance of 170km to Nieuewendijk.

First bird was the 07-609 winner as a young bird, scored well as a yearling and two year old. She is from Mistraal (Grandson Sissi) x Kelly a daughter of Golden Gaby.
Second bird was the super cock 07-664 a previous winner this season of 1st section Chateroux 1736 birds, 4th National NPO 3922 birds.. 1st Pommeroeul 1931 birds and 1st Sens 1095 birds plus many other positions in the Altena & Raamsdonksveer. He is was also a big winner as a young bird and yearling. His nest brother has also won. He is bred from 'Challenger' a winner himself of 1st Americas Kings Cup Race, 400 miles in Florida as a young bird and then retained for the breeding loft. He is a son of "Magic Star". Dam of '07-664' is "Sarina" GFL04-510 bred from "Spaceman" winner of 1st Dutch National Ace Young Bird 2002 x "Fieneke 086" a sister to "Fieneke 5000" of Flor Vervoort. Saturday 8th August had two races taking place. The first race was the morning Natour race (Any Age) from Strombeek and the second race in the afternoon was the first young bird National NPO race.
The wind was a strong north west and that is a head wind.This made for a very tough race for the youngsters as the wind strength picked up in the afternoon. The National winning velocity was a little over 1100 m/m and not many made it over a 1000 m/m. There was many loses on the day with only a few returning home on Sunday.
Strombeek Natour (Any Age) race. A distance of 105 km.
Club 452 birds...1st,2nd,3rd,7th,8th and so on. 15 prizes out of 15 entries. The first 100% score in a few seasons.

Saturday 1st August saw the Creil young bird race taking place from a distance of 330 km, in a steady south east wind.
Last Sunday after the young birds return from Morlincourt the preperation for the National races began. All youngsters were seperated and will now be raced on the 'sliding door' method. The road training will be further intensified and last Sunday saw the start of the Vita King 'Easy as 1,2,3' system begin.

Fourth bird was 09-356 bred from a son of 'Golden Mattens' x Sheila (Sister to Super Champion the Olympiade Ace Pigeon all round.) when coupled to a daughter of 'Kannibaal King' ( Son Young Couple) x Marita the good breeding hen bred by Flor Vervoort and is a sister to 'Aske' the Olympiade Ace Pigeon (Grand daughter of Fieneke 5000).
Fifth bird was 09-420 bred from 'Zoon 147' bred by Dirk Van Dyke from 'De 147' his best breeding son of Kannibaal x 'Halo' a daughter of 'Dutch Master' when coupled to 'Gerrie' the daughter of 'Kleine Dirk'.
Sixth bird was 09-406 bred from Johannesburg (Drum x Doran the daughter of Golden Lady of Koopman) x Star 300 (Galileo the cock of the Young Couple x Emerald 6th International Sun City Million Dollar Race 2006 from Attila x Rianne). 09-460 is again a prize winner this year including 2nd against 2054 birds from Nijvel.
Next week sees the first National NPO race take place from Sens, then a week after it is National Sezanne, then two weeks later it is National Orleans 1 followed by Orleans 2, so lets hope the uplift in form continues.
Sunday 2nd August also saw the first HOT SPOT race take place for the Emerald Classic One Loft Race in Northern Ireland. We were fortunate to win this race with 09-645 bred from 'Major' a son of 'Golden Gaby' x 'Marcia' a daughter of 'Blue Diamond' (Wittenbuik x Sissi) x 'Marita' the good breeding Flor Vervoort hen. A full sister to 09-645 was also clocked from the Creil Young bird race yesterday to win 16th club against 532 birds.

Saturday the 27th July 2009 saw the youngbird race from Morlincourt taking place, a distance of 280 km to Nieuwendijk. Due to a strange and very sudden heavy downpour that lasted approx 3 minutes before returning to brilliant sunshine, resulted in the entire Nieuwendijk club which is the longest flying club in the Altenna & Raamsdonksveer Federation being around 50 m/m of the pace but still achieved near enough 100% returns.

Third bird was 09-687 one of our best youngbirds this year and a son of Pantani bred by Peiter Veenstra (Mr.Surhuizem x Celeste) x Poppy a direct daughter of Kannibaal of Van Dyke.

Saturday 18th July 2009 saw two races taking place. The Chateauroux National NPO race and a young bird race from St.Quentin.
Chateauroux is a distance of 598 km to Nieuwendijk. This race was open to the entire country. Due to the stiff westerly wind, the leading birds were in Limburg on the eastern border.

This great cock scored a 100% record winning 8 top prizes in 8 races as a youngster and became the 1st Ace Young Bird of the Federation CCG 9. This Federation has 350 members and is the strongest in the entire Region 7 of Middle Holland against some of the most famous fanciers in Holland.
This year as a yearling he won 3 first prizes in the strong Tiel club before his Salbris triumph.

This weekend was saw the first young bird race of the season from Strombeek and the National NPO old bird race take place from Orleans. Many races in Belgium were cancelled on Saturday due to thunderstorms however Barabant 2000 decided to liberate at Orleans. It proved to be not an easy race with many good performing birds missing.

A yearling hen was the first arrival but the occasion got to her and she flew around for over a minute. She was eventually clocked second. First bird to be timed is a yearling cock from the Van Zon bloodlines that have really stepped up to the mark this last two seasons. Overall the result was very pleasing as the condition is being held back with the NPO middle distance races in mind.

Due to producing our new catalouge and updating the "Breeders Section" to include our new breeders in June, 2008 we will not have our Sale List availiable untill the end of June.

Many congratulations to Ian Gibb and Henry Byrne winners of 1st Europa Classic One Loft race 9th September '07 from Edinburgh 300 miles winning £30,000. The winner is a double grandaughter of our great old favorite "Vechter" with President-Conimix and Supercrack Olympiade 699 also represented in the breeding.
